Defense Summary

You probably won't read this and mash DP anyways, right?

General Defense Rundown

Adachi's defense options are lackluster and bad if you don't have meter and/or you're not in the awakening state. Your best choice of defending yourself when you're being pressured is blocking, using your fundamentals to brush away what comes at you and knowing the opportunity to get out and scram out of that situation. It is highly recommended to know how to IB most blockstrings so you can get your turn back even faster.

For now, let's go over your options to get out of pressure

Universal Defensive Options

The ole "reliable"
  • "GET LOST!" (DP)

Slow startup with high amounts of invuln frames, can be OS'd by most of the cast. Extremely high risk, and as such you shouldn't use this much to get out of pressure so use it sparingly

Actually reliable
  • Guard Cancel Attack

Good Guard Cancel attack that moves Adachi forward while also having a fairly good hitbox. Often underused but it is still a reliable defense option for 50 meter

For when you don't want your GCA to miss
  • Guard Cancel Roll

GCR can be used for situations when GCA might not hit the opponent or it might get baited. Basically a roll that goes further but cost 50 meter to do so.

Abare Options

Your fastest grounded normal, can also catch people in the air
  • 5A

Your fastest normal with 6 frames of startup, generally used to catch people in the air thanks to the hitbox it has and can actually help with air confirms. But generally loses to other 5As since majority of 5As are 1 frame faster compared to Adachi's

Longer range abare move
  • 5B

Your other half decent abare tool that has 7 frames of startup, it is used to contest against people that is outside of 5A's range. Use this sparingly.

Metered Reversals

Not as glorious as it used to be, but it'll do
Also + on block but it is easy to roll through
  • SB & D Atom Smasher

Your best metered reversals when you're not in awakening, but they aren't really the best. SB is the version you'll be going for most of the time if you have the meter since it is both the fastest version and also makes you plus on block but opponents can still react to this easily. D Atom Smasher should be used wisely and when you suspect something to have long startup or recovery to be used from the opponent. Both versions can be rolled through

Still as glorious as it used to be
Don't get predictable still
  • C Ghastly Wail

Your best metered reversal option, but it is only usable when you're in awakening. C Ghastly Wail has 0 frames of startup, meaning if the opponent wasn't jumping they would get hit. When it connects it inflicts fear and puts the opponent away from your current position, allowing you to get out of the situation you were once in. Since it is a grab it will whiff if the opponent is airborne, so again use this wisely and when the time is right.
